When a patientโ€™s cancer sample arrives at the lab in the middle of the night, it needs to be processed immediately, and so, the search begins. In this photo submitted by Soroush Hajizadeh, PhD, scientist Ezgi Antmen, PhD, looks for certain rare cells โ€” unusual cells that might reveal why some cancers become more aggressive. These cells are difficult to find, appearing only occasionally in patient samples. This photo captures the dedication, focus, and quiet persistence required in the lab, and the hope that even a single discovered cell could help bring us closer to better treatments.
